Strata: Portraits of Humanity November 2016 (Roman lead coffin burial in England; Maya rain ceremony)  (1) Archaeologists dive on Marigondon Cave, best known as one of the most famous diving spots in Cebu City, Philippines.  It would have been above sea level during the last glacial periods of 22,000 and 38,000 BP so it could have been inhabited then.  (2) Archaeologists carried out excavations over the summer of 2014 on the route to bypass Cannington, a town in West Somerset, England.  They found the remains of three Roman buildings, including a high-status villa complete with under-floor heating and evidence of painted wall plaster and a slate roof. Panelists at this City Club of Eugene forum were School District 4-J Superintendent Gustavo Balderas and Springfield School Superintendent Susan Rieke-Smith will speak about the data collection and responsive programs being mounted collaboratively by all three local districts & Dena James, a teacher and parent whose biracial children attend local schools will speak about her experience and what needs to be done. Oregon has an inordinately high number of incidents of harassment of schoolchildren arising from racial, ethnic, religious, or gender-identity intolerance, according to national statistics. Statistically Lane County leads the state in such offenses. The Black Sheep Gathering 2015 The Eugene News Network (ENN) reporters headed out to the 2015 Black Sheep Gathering at the Lane County Fairgrounds. They sure learned quite a bit about wool and the animals that provide it. They had a great time interviewing folks who take care of the animals. The animals themselves were interviewed also. The reporters became very connected to the stories these animals told, and they were passionate about helping those animals communicate their messages to the public. It was not only a fun experience for the ENN reporters, but it was an excellent growth experience as well. Oregon Lifestyles Terri-Lynn Kalhagen pays a visit to Eastside Distilling on Portlands Distillery row to speak with Lenny, Mel and Kirsten about the various spirits they make and how each is made with a different process and ingredients. On the first Thursday of the month the galleries in Portland's Pearl district open their doors with featured artists, musicians and refreshments for the monthly gallery walk and Terri-Lynn takes it all in for a night out on the town before popping into Deschutes brewery to speak with brewmaster Ben Kehs about the art of craft beer. Our local artist feature this episode is film maker Destiny Lane and local music 'The Father' with a short film production titled Bitter Sweet. The show ends with scenes from a performance art event held at Ted's Berbatti Pan in Portland's Old Town called 'Fusion PDX' fusing music, art and dance.
